The Rights of Man, after Colls

Until I write the history myself, I'm afraid we've only got the Wikipedia entry. Apologies! "The action of 13 January 1797 (known by the French as the Naufrage du Droits de l'Homme; "shipwreck [or sinking] of the Droits de l'Homme") was a minor naval battle fought between a French ship of the line and two British frigates off the coast of Brittany during the French Revolutionary Wars." 

This painting is heavily inspired by Ebenezer Colls (1812-1887) - Destruction of the 'Droits de l'Homme', 13 January 1797 - BHC0482 - Royal Museums Greenwich.jpg. However, I added additional battle action after reading the history. The Rights of Man was sunk soon after this moment.

There is some question about this painting as it pertains to a companion painting--that the painter may not have done both.
